What about when I truly CAN'T offload anything

Oh hi there,

Do you sometimes feel like your brain is crammed with so many things that you can't think straight? Maybe you're stuck doing the hamster wheel run of school drop offs and pick ups, shuttling children around to various after school activities, booking appointments (and getting people to them!), organising the weekly food shop and all the other million things that keeps a family running.

There are many reasons why you may not be able to physically hand over these duties - your partner may work away, you may not have family support close by, your friends might be swamped with their own life admin. If this is the case for you, how can you mentally offload some of this stuff?!?

I'm a big fan of writing stuff down. In particular, the act of physically handwriting a list or a brain dump of thoughts can help relieve that feeling of overwhelm in your mind. Rather than it all swirling around in your head, having it physically written down can help calm your mind.

Would it be possible for you to automate some of your tasks? For example, you could set up an automatic food shopping list online that you can simply modify a little each week with any extras and have the items delivered direct to your door. Or, if it's within your family finances, can you pay someone else to do the cleaning or mow the lawn and keep the garden neat?

Another way to mentally offload is to have a big venting session with a trusted friend or family member. Talking things through can really help to gain clarity and put things into perspective. Not to mention that old saying - a problem shared is a problem halved!

How do you calm your mind when it is brimming with to do lists and appointments and chores and activities? I'd love to know your favourite way to do so!

Until next week Mamas, be kind to yourself! And remember to follow @theflourishmama on Instagram where I share real mum life and how you can find time to nourish YOU.
