Bimpe's mum said to me that day she called me for the first time - someone had mentioned me to her.

And so, I said to her, your 10 year old is growing ma'am and she does not have all the skills she needs to function as you desire.

Her Executive Function (EF) skill and ability to be self-regulatory are developing and most of it depends on you and others who impact her.

The ability of your 10year olds mind to work like an air traffic control centre - knowing what plane is landing, stopping the next one from taxing at the same time and programming the next take-off or landing.

It takes training and time to master this as an Air Traffic Control Specialist ( ATCS) and this is the same thing for your child. It will take time,

training and practice to master inhibitory control, mental flexibility and working memory.

I will share briefly how each of these skills that make up Executive Function Skills.

Furthermore, I'm sure that it is no news to you by now that the part of the brain that controls these activities takes about 25years to develop to full maturity.

Of course, a lot can happen way before then, however, that depends on you, the knowledge, tools and support you are willing to employ.

So, I said to Bimpe's mum, what Bimpe needs now is training, practice and support, not your frustration and needless stress.
