The art of saying no (and why it matters)

Happy Saturday, !

Ever said yes to something you didn’t really want to do and then felt completely drained afterward?

We’ve all been there.

It’s easy to say yes—to extra work, social events, or even taking on someone else’s responsibilities—when deep down, you know it’s not what you need.

But when you’re always saying yes, there’s usually not a whole lot of room left for things that actually matter to you.

This is where boundaries come in.

Boundaries aren’t about shutting people out or being inflexible...

They’re about protecting your energy, your priorities, and your well-being so you can show up as your best self!

Saying no to what doesn’t serve you creates space to say yes to the things that do—like home-cooked meals, workouts you enjoy, and time to recharge.

Here’s how this might look in real life:

  • At work: Saying no to staying late if it means skipping your evening workout or meal prep.
  • At home: Delegating tasks or asking for help so you can carve out time for self-care.
  • Socially: Politely declining plans when you need to rest.

As a coach, I started saying no to my early-morning long emails and instead used that time to meditate, do my Qigong, and get ready for the working day. This one thing has made such a big difference in my energy.

Reminder: Boundaries aren’t selfish—they’re a form of self-respect.

When you protect your time and energy, you create space for the things that light you up. And in turn, you’ll have more to give to the people and priorities that matter most.

So, what’s one thing you’re ready to say no to this month? Hit “reply” and let me know—I’d love to hear how you’re creating space for balance in your life.

To saying yes to what matters,

Coach Lu
