‘Most men lead lives of quiet desperation (& go to the grave with the song still in them) ‘

The above quote, paraphrased from Henry Thoreau, seems as distressingly apt today as it did when it was written over 150 years ago. Despite the advances made by feminism, the ‘new age’ & the ‘men’s movement’ men are still notoriously reluctant to present for any kind of therapeutic support. Yet levels of depression, violence & suicide in men, particularly young men, are worryingly high. What is it that leads to this state of affairs? How, as practitioners, can we engage effectively with men? What unconscious biases or prejudices might we be holding that will interfere with or sabotage our work?

This training will provide participants with hands-on experience of a range of methods & approaches, which they can take away and add to their to add to their tool kits, including personal reflection, group and pair work, creativity, poetry & story.

Some of the topics we will explore include:-

MAXIMUM NUMBERS : 23

APPROVED FOR CPD : This course has been approved by NCIP- National Council Of Integrative Psychotherapists.

OUR EXPECTATION : IS THAT YOU WILL ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP FOR THE FULL LENGTH OF THE COURSE, HAVE YOUR VIDEO ON, YOUR MOBILE OFF, AND FULLY PARTICIPATE.

There are some online talks on zoom that allow you to come and go, or to choose not to participate in the exercise and breakout rooms. This culture has started to creep into our workshops. We have even had people say they want to leave to go and pick up children from school or walk their dog! People dropping in and out is very disruptive – especially when there may be group exercises that are planned for the same group to participate in a number of times.

Because of this, we want to be clear about our expectations. This workshop has been planned with the assumption that you, and everyone else, will attend for the full time.

SO PLEASE BE CLEAR, THAT IF YOU BOOK ON THIS WORKSHOP, WE EXPECT YOU TO ATTEND FOR THE WHOLE TIME, TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BREAKOUT ROOMS AND EXERCISES AND HAVE YOUR VIDEO SWITCHED ON.

Please also put your mobile to one side and on silent – checking your phone or texting will mean that you miss material. So we request that you only check your phone during breaks.

CPD FORM : A Certificate of Attendance form for Continuous Professional Development for 7 hours will be sent by email once you have filled in the feedback form.

Therapists Insurance: By booking on this workshop you confirm that you have sufficient insurance to offer therapy to the public. (We are required by the NCIP, who accredit this workshop, to ask you to confirm this). If there is any discrepancy please let us know by contacting [email protected]

CANCELLATIONS : Any request to change (e.g. defer to alternative dates) or cancel your place at a workshop, that is made at less than 21 days before the course start date will be charged in full. Any cancellation / amendments / requests to defer before 21 days, will be subject to a 12.5% handling charge.

FOR MORE INFO : If you have further questions please email: [email protected] or call Juliet Grayson on 01291 638805

Facing Fear

A Men's Rites of Passage event

July 18 - 21 2024 Eryri (Snowdonia)

with Simon Roe, Sebastian Kelly, Phil Atkinson & Ben Howarth

Fear and anxiety are part of every man’s experience.

These days there seems to be plenty out in the world to start them off: Wars, climate change, cost of living, pandemics, health care, threats to democracy, political polarisation, social division…. the list is long; add your own.

The inner world meanwhile has demons the equal or worse of anything found out there. Spectres, threats, deficiencies, judgments and much more, fit to make the blood run cold and send men running for distraction, oblivion.

Turn about to face it though, and - like all inner content - our fear can be a portal to deeper levels of ourselves, and a key to freedom if we’re willing to engage and scratch beneath its surface.

We’ll explore this material together, bringing as a team our long decades of

experience in men's work to the inspiring site in the mountains of Snowdonia where we have gathered across the years. In that beautiful encampment we’ll use a range of tools - inquiry, groupwork, ritual, bodywork, time in nature, the unique power of men in community, and the alchemy of the moment - to explore the territory of this material and ourselves. It is enriching, soulful, spirited, transformational work, aimed to support greater inner fullness and freedom for and as men.

As on every Mandorla event, we welcome and respect each man just as they are with whatever they bring; there is no expectation and no prescription for what, who or how to be.

Cost: £425 fully inclusive

Some bursary places are available for any man who would like to attend but is

financially stretched.

Contact Simon on 0771 2264011 [email protected]
