Drippy lava cakes and burned bread

Dearest readers,
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas weekend, full of rest and good food and perhaps even a good book near a fireplace (real or electronic). In our house we started a new tradition: cooking as a family. But not just helping me run around the kitchen. This year, and forever more, each person was in charge of one or two things all by themselves. And we did it all around the same time.
We had lamb chops with mashed potatoes (made by daughter A), and salad and bread (made by daughter C with some help from me) and shrimp and lava cake (made by daughter B).
Everything was lovely. Perfect. Like a Christmas card from the 1950s. Who cares that we turned on the oven while the rolls were rising, forcing them to cook sooner than expected and turning them into rather crunchy little breads? And who cares that the temperature for the lava cakes was incorrect making them more like lava pools?
The truth is, well, everyone. Each daughter expressly said both things were my fault because I'm the one who put the bread in the oven to rise when obviously we needed it to do it's job, which is COOK. And they're all convinced that I set the oven temperature for the lava cakes, although I don't remember doing it. After two glasses of egg nog, who can?
But it wouldn't be a family gathering without a little squabbling, would it?
We ate, we teased, we laughed and some got pouty. Merry Christmas!
