Hey Dragons!
Earlier this week I finished reading Shadow of the Fox, and this weekend I’m expecting to finish reading Best Served Cold. Two completely different books in terms of subgenres but both have been absolutely amazing to read/listen to. It’s really pushed me to want to explore my writing in new ways while revising my thesis and working on Apothecary’s Price.
As I read Shadow of the Fox, it made me really think about the book I am planning on writing under a pen name. It will be set in a secondary world like Japan with Japanese mythology. The reason I’m choosing to write under a different name is that it’s a fantasy romance versus my grimdark fantasy I write under this name.
Granted Apothecary’s price isn’t really grimdark. Instead, I would put it more in the sword and sorcery category. Yes, Elona is one of the main characters, but Robynn, the primary main character, isn’t morally gray. She knows what’s right and wrong and pushes to do what’s right.
On the other hand, Shade of Silence (title pending), is definitely a grimdark novel more akin to Red Sister and Child of the Night Guild.
