Wise Owl Wednesday #31 - Why So Serious?

Aug 26, 2020 6:36 pm

Happy Wednesday, Wise Owl Nation!

I've noticed quite a lot of people seem to be taking life really seriously lately.

While I can't blame them, I think it's important to always find balance in life.

So, this week I am going to tone things down a bit and share some memes around becoming wiser, healthier, and wealthier.

Meme's are a powerful way to communicate in the digital age, so don't be surprised if you find some real value in this newsletter today.

But just remember, what is the point of improving your health or wealth if you're too serious to enjoy it?

Wisdom Meme of the Week: Focus on what you can control

If Spongebob can do it, so can you.

This is one of the most empowering and profound truths in life.

Stop worrying about shit you can't control!

No other advice has had a larger impact on my mental well-being than this.

Now, it's pretty difficult to always put into practice, but you really should try.

One of my favorite exercises for working on this is the following:

  1. Write down my biggest problem
  2. Can I do something about this? If yes, move to step 3. If no, move on with your life.
  3. Write down what you can do about this.
  4. DO THOSE THINGS

You're welcome <3.

Health Meme of the Week: Healthy eating is easier than you think

This kind of infographic breakdown really helps someone like me visualize what a healthy food day could look like.

I love to eat, but I am now thirty-years-old and it would be rather hypocritical for a writer of a self-improvement newsletter to not work to improve their health! So, memes/infographics likes this are the best.

Soheefit is one of my favorite health focused Instagram follows.

And of course, what kind of monster would I be if I didn't include a taco meme.

To my fellow taco lovers out there - you are not alone!

Wealth Meme of the Week: Life is a game, so you better start playing

I've written about this probably dozens of times by now, but the most sure-proof way to growing your wealth is to invest in assets that can also produce a return.

This is what spending money to make money really means.

Wealth building is kind of like monopoly, only a lot more fun.

Here are a few assets that earn money themselves:

  • Index funds via dividends
  • Ethereum via staking (by the end of 2020) and DeFi lending
  • A digital product via sales - you build it once and continue selling it
  • A rental property via monthly rent

Just like there is no such thing as winning monopoly passively, there is no such thing as passive income. Not really. You have to take action to acquire or build assets that will continue to bring in value over time.
