I Rejected Buttercream Cake Orders

Grab a chair and popcorn, then come closer let me gist you small hahaha.
Ten years ago when I started baking, I never liked working with buttercream, I found more affinity and confidence with fondant than buttercream.
Buttercream was too messy for me.👎
It was always rough no matter how hard I tried.👎
Cake crumbs were always interfering with my final coating.👎
To escape these frustrations, I did what I thought was best for me; I diverted the attention of the few customers I had to fondant cakes.
I made sure I gave them a reason to order fondant cakes and it was really working until something surprising happened!
I got a buttercream cake order again, this time around, this customer insisted it’s buttercream or nothing and gave me a hundred reasons why fondant wasn’t an option at all.
Panic gripped me. My heart dropped in my tommy.
But deep inside, I knew, I couldn't keep running forever.
So I made a drastic decision to face my fears head-on. I practiced relentlessly on dummy cakes.
Slowly, I saw a little progress & my confidence grew!
Then came the real test, the customer's cake. I handled the cake holding my breath thinking it will be a disaster.
Finally, I finished & delivered the cake.
Guess what? The customer loved it!
Truly, after delivering this cake I made some amazing discoveries:
One, buttercream cakes take less time than fondant.
Two, with the right techniques, buttercream decorating isn't hard.
Three, you can make more money selling cream cakes, if you master time management and marketing.
I stopped running after making these amazing discoveries. My buttercream cake orders increased, sales increased and my cake business grew more!
