Joplin Journal Volume 11-1, Issue 2
From the Editor's Desk:
Can you believe I'm writing Joplin Journals two weeks in a row? I don't really have a lot to say, but since I wasn't sure what next Saturday is going to be like, I thought I'd just go ahead then maybe the next Joplin Journal won't have to be quite so long.
Weather Report:
We're not sure if we're getting spring or winter. It's rained, and we've had most of the week be in the 40s-50s, but today is sunny and supposed to be in the 30s. And the nights have dipped into the 20s. And the wind! There's been a lot of wind this week! It was from the south, and then it switched and is coming from the north. Is Winter protesting the start of Spring on Monday?
"Genius Burns":
Well, forget the 4k record! On Monday I wrote 4,217 words in a day! And then Thursday I set a new record for writing 5,014 words in a day! I blame it all on writing camp and mostly on my tent. But it was rather fun. I was going to end at 4,589 words, but the other aunties at camp convinced me that 400 more words really wasn't that much. So I went ahead and reached 5k. Yesterday I only wrote 1,300 words. It was rather nice because I could reread what I had written the last few days and edit it. Kate & Kylie is now over 67k words long! This week I've already written over 14k words.
I did have another issue with my 2nd NEO. After it ate my stories, and reset to factory settings, I thought things were good. I rewrote half my Thanksgiving story, wrote almost all of another short story, wrote a really short story for someone, and another story. And then on Thursday, after I thought I was done writing but decided to write that last 400 words, NEO wouldn't open. Now what? Yesterday I took out the batteries, and got the same message I had gotten before asking if I had changed batteries. Only this time I noticed it said "back up battery." I did a little research and discovered there's a coin battery inside NEO that keeps everything backed up when you change batteries. That's what needed replaced! Last night Dad and I opened up my NEO and changed it. Now it seems to work just fine. And yes, I once again lost everything on there. I just have to decide if I'm going to rewrite that Thanksgiving story again. Or try to rewrite that other story.
Project Prognosis:
Let's see how my projects are coming this week.
- Work on Blog Posts for 2023 – That's on my to-do list for today
- Update Website – I still need to do that.
- Design Two Covers – Some day.
Babysitting:
Haven't done that. This week has been quiet.
Out of the Mouth:
Kinsley was in the nursery with Grammy on Wednesday. She was on the little slide and she suddenly says, "Grammy! You know what Daddy's name is? He name is Jimmy! And he last name is . . . is . . . " She thinks really hard. "He last name is Daddy!"
Grammy: "Is his last name Morris?"
Kinsley: "Yeah! He name Jimmy Daddy Morris!"
The Music Stand:
We had practice last Sunday, and we'll have it again tomorrow for the Ladies' Ensemble. We're supposed to sing on Easter.
I got music for our orchestra group. We'll start practice on the 26th. We're supposed to play one song for Easter, and aren't sure when we'll play the other one.
KDWC:
My tent, Tentalizing Tales, was able to reach 100% of our tent goal first. The funny thing though was that the tent we thought (or as least some of my girls were convinced of) was racing us, hadn't even thought of racing for first. But now that we've reached it we've all slowed down. Some girls have decided to up their goal and try for a bigger word count. I'm aiming for 40k this month instead of the 20k I was hoping for. I don't think I've ever gotten that many words written in a month before. I am currently at 30k.
Sewing Room:
Sarah is still sewing. She has some fabric that she's going to make into a dress or jumper or something for an order, but it reminds me so much of my grandparents old couch. It's kind of a dusty blue with ridges in the fabric. Kind of hard to describe, but I have fond memories of that couch.
Read Another Page:
Nothing here.
Teacher's Lounge:
Closed for now.
Book Nook:
Well, this is strange! I only read one book since the last Joplin Journal! Bendigo Shafter (really liked it). And I'm reading "The Time-Saving Mom." I guess I've just been writing more than reading this week.
Farewell:
Told you this would be shorter. Now I can get to work on the other things on my to-do list. Like practicing the violin, replying to an email, and some other things. Like, you know, writing. :) Have a lovely weekend and maybe the first day of spring will be spring-like!
