If you look like “just another designer,” you won’t get hired

Most UX designers blend in.

They have portfolios filled with the same projects.

LinkedIn bios that sound like everyone else.

Resumes packed with generic buzzwords.

And then they wonder why hiring managers scroll past them.

The problem?

They don’t have a clear personal brand.

Here’s why this happens:

1️⃣ They think skills alone will get them hired. (They won’t.)

2️⃣ They assume their portfolio speaks for itself. (It doesn’t.)

3️⃣ They don’t know how to position themselves as the obvious hire. (This is the real key.)

Hiring managers don’t hire the best designer. They hire the best-known designer.

So how do you stand out?

You need Power Positioning—a clear, compelling personal brand that makes hiring managers remember you.

Here’s how:

Find your niche. Are you a systems thinker? A UX researcher who connects business goals to user needs? A UI designer who simplifies complex interfaces? Define your unique angle.

Craft a compelling LinkedIn presence. Your profile should tell a story, not just list skills. Show how you solve real business problems.

Stop applying blindly—start attracting opportunities. Hiring managers should see your content, case studies, or recommendations and think: This is the person we need.

When you position yourself strategically, companies come to you—not the other way around.

If you feel like just another designer, it’s time to change that.
