Applied to 100+ UX Roles and Still No Interviews? Read This.

I’ve seen this happen too often:

A UX designer applies to 100+ jobs

Spends weeks refining their resume and portfolio…

And still gets zero interviews.

What’s going on?

Here’s what I’ve learned from working with hundreds of designers:

1. You’re too slow.

UX roles get hundreds of applicants within 24 hours.

If you apply 3–4 days after a posting goes live, your resume’s already buried.

Fix it:

Use LinkedIn’s filter → “Posted in the last 24 hours”

Try to be among the first 10–20 applicants.

2. Your resume is too generic.

If you’re sending the same resume to every role:

❌ You’re missing key words

❌ You’re not aligned with what they’re looking for

❌ You’re blending in with everyone else

Fix it:

✔ Tailor your CV and portfolio summary to each role

✔ Mirror their language

✔ Highlight the most relevant experience upfront

3. You apply… and disappear.

Clicking “Submit” isn’t enough anymore.

Stand out by doing this:

✅ Find the recruiter or hiring manager on LinkedIn

✅ Send a personal message mentioning you’ve applied

✅ Explain why you’re interested

That extra step makes you visible. It shows effort.

4. You don’t have a strategy.

Most designers are applying reactively.

They’re not reflecting, adjusting, or learning from what’s working.

Treat your job search like a UX project:

✅ Test different outreach messages

✅ Adjust your portfolio and positioning

✅ Reflect every week on what’s getting traction

It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing it better.
