Is networking luck… or leverage?

A lot of designers tell me:

“I don’t have a strong network. Even if I connect with people, it feels like luck if anything comes from it.”

I get it. Networking feels fuzzy. Like small talk at events or awkward cold DMs.

But here’s the shift:

Networking isn’t luck. It’s leverage.

Think about it:

You don’t buy lottery tickets hoping someone will call you with a job.

You build a bridge to the right people so they choose you when opportunities come up.

Top designers I coach don’t “work the room.” They use Trojan Horse Docs.

Instead of saying “Hey, can you refer me?” they share a sharp idea.

It flips the dynamic: from “asking for a favor” to “adding value.”

That’s when strangers turn into champions.

So here’s the question I’ll leave you with:

👉 Do you want to gamble on luck… or learn how to engineer trust?

Takeaway: Warm referrals aren’t random. They’re built. And anyone can learn the system.
