LinkedIn poll results (and what it means for you)
Nov 23, 2024 5:30 am
I ran a LinkedIn poll 3 days ago asking my audience about what's their biggest challenge in landing a great UX job.
Here're the results so far:
48% shared that they are not getting noticed.
Where most are feeling invisible to recruiters and hiring managers.
Which points to the problems with their personal branding, LinkedIn profiles and resumes.
Another 26% shared that they struggled to pitch their value.
Not being able to communicate their impact effectively.
Which links back to telling compelling stories in their portfolios/case studies, and interviews.
And another 13% don't know where to start in their job search.
Which tells me that a group of UX job seekers are feeling overwhlemed and lack clarity in their job search.
Especially when you get a range of differing advices from influencers, coaches, mentors, design leaders, and recruiters online.
But what surprised me the most of all was this.
12% are not finding the right roles.
This suggests that most UX professionals doesn’t perceive a lack of opportunities as their main issue but rather their ability to stand out for the roles they do find.
What this means for you?
Here’s how you can use these results:
1. Not getting noticed?
Fix your LinkedIn, resume, and portfolio. Show why you’re valuable. Use clear, simple words that hiring managers understand.
2. Struggle to pitch your value?
Your portfolio isn’t just a slideshow. It’s your chance to prove you solve real problems. Focus on what you did, why it mattered, and how it helped.
3. Don’t know where to start?
Step back. Ask yourself: What kind of work excites me? What problems do I want to solve? Start there and make a plan.
4. Not finding the right roles?
Maybe the roles aren’t the problem. Are you looking at jobs that actually match your skills and goals? Be honest.
Why it matters?
Most UX professionals don’t have a skills problem. They have a visibility and storytelling problem. When you fix that, the game changes.
So what's next?
I’ll share tips for these challenges in the next few weeks. But first, tell me:
