A simpler way to approach this market

Most job searches start with applications.

That’s usually where things go sideways.

The approach I use — and work through with experienced designers — starts somewhere else: clarity. Not effort. Not volume.

At a high level, the work follows a simple sequence:

First, clarify the target and your positioning.

Not every possible role. One clear bet that actually fits your strengths and experience.

Then, create access inside the right companies.

Not broad networking. Not cold volume. Intentional entry points where conversations actually matter.

Next, build visible proof.

The kind that helps people understand how you think and where you add value — before you’re judged.

From there, control the interview narrative.

So interviews feel like a continuation of a conversation, not an interrogation.

And finally, make the decision easy.

Reduce uncertainty. Reduce perceived risk. Help hiring managers feel confident saying yes.

This isn’t a checklist or a funnel. It’s a way to pressure-test fit — on both sides — before you spend months chasing the wrong signal.

If you’re early in the process, this helps you avoid wasted motion.

If you’re deep in it, it helps explain why effort hasn’t translated into traction yet.

If you want the details and to see whether this approach fits your situation, DM me “OBVIOUS HIRE.”

No pressure. Just a conversation.
