"Does this actually work?"

Let me show you instead of telling you.

3 designers. Same system. Real results.

CLIENT 1: SARAH - ARTS & CULTURE DESIGNER

Before:

  • Stuck in interviews that went nowhere
  • Had skills, had portfolio
  • Zero traction for months

What changed:

Sarah stopped applying. Started building.

She identified her Dream 100 (10 dream companies × 10 people per company).

Target: A museum in Singapore she admired.

She reached out to the director. Connected. Exchanged WhatsApp. Had real conversations—not "Can I get a job?" but genuine curiosity about their work.

Then she created a visitor experience audit.

No one asked for it. She just did it. Showed her ideas for improving the museum experience.

Director's response: "You should charge for this."

They brought her in to meet the team. Didn't have an opening at the time. But Sarah put the audit in her portfolio.

A few weeks later, an agency director working on arts/culture projects in Singapore noticed her work. Had a chat. No opening then either.

But he remembered her.

1-2 months later: Role opened. He reached out.

One conversation with him and the creative director. Offer the next day.

After:

  • Doing the best work of her life
  • Her designs are seen by millions daily in Singapore's public train stations

Timeline: ~2-3 months from first outreach to offer

CLIENT 2: JEFF - SENIOR DESIGNER

Before:

  • Multiple short stints on resume (1 year, <2 years—red flags)
  • Laid off October 2024
  • Applied for 3+ months on his own
  • Hiring managers kept questioning his short stints
  • No offers

What changed:

Jeff joined me in late January. We reworked his story.

Not "I job-hopped" but "Here's what I learned at each company and how it makes me valuable to YOU."

He stopped defending his past. Started showcasing his future value.

Created backstage passes for target companies. Showed how he'd solve their specific problems.

After:

  • Landed $200K role at Walmart in May
  • Total package + relocation to Arkansas
  • Moved entire family
  • Found team that actually values him

Timeline: Late January (joined) → May (offer) = ~3-4 months

What stuck with me: His short stints went from being a dealbreaker to a non-issue. Because he showed proof, not just explanations.

CLIENT 3: CHARLENE - CAREER CHANGER

Before:

  • Career changer (no experience in the field)
  • Got ghosted repeatedly
  • Doors kept closing

What changed:

Charlene created a backstage pass for her dream company.

She identified a hiring manager and sent him an "ideal deck"—her vision for solving a specific problem they had.

Hiring manager wasn't even hiring at the time. But he was interested.

He invited her for a 30-minute coffee chat at the office.

That 30 minutes turned into 1+ hour. Real conversation. Real connection.

A couple weeks later: Role opened on his team.

He remembered her. Forwarded her straight to 2nd round interviews. Then final round.

After:

  • Final round interviews at dream company
  • As a career changer with no direct experience

Timeline: ~2-3 weeks from initial outreach to final interviews

Her words: "For the first time I felt like doors open because of who I am and not just what I have on resume."

(Side note: I just realized that I have the same 'Woohoo!" expression for all of my clients' wins haha. Just tells you how excited and happy I am for them.)

WHAT THESE 3 HAVE IN COMMON:

They stopped applying to 50+ companies

  • Sarah: Targeted specific museums/cultural orgs
  • Jeff: Strategic about which companies matched his strengths
  • Charlene: Found companies where her fresh perspective was valuable

They used the backdoor method

  • Not "Apply and wait" but "Build relationships first"
  • Response rate: 20-30% (vs. 1% on job boards)

They showed business value, not just portfolio

  • Sarah: Visitor experience audit
  • Jeff: Backstage pass showing future value
  • Charlene: Ideal deck solving specific problem

They applied to 8-15 companies max

  • The right ones, not every one
  • Quality over quantity

SAME MARKET. DIFFERENT APPROACH. DIFFERENT RESULTS.

Sarah didn't have a "better" portfolio than everyone else.

Jeff's resume still showed short stints.

Charlene had zero experience in the field.

But they all got results. Because they proved fit BEFORE the interview.

P.S. These aren't overnight success stories. Sarah took 2-3 months. Jeff took 3-4 months. Charlene took 2-3 weeks. But they got results because they used a system, not hope.
