A few weeks ago, I sat down with Ginevra Grasso of Conoscere TV — an internationally broadcast Italian television channel produced by CAOS Film. We talked about my book, Beyond the Goat Pen: An African Woman's Journey.

And the conversation went somewhere deeply personal.

We talked about migration.

Every year, millions of Africans leave home in search of better lives. But when family ties are stretched across borders — and sometimes broken entirely — it is the next generation that pays the heaviest price.

We talked about Gen Z and Gen Alpha.

These young people are sharp, perceptive, and deeply connected to the world through technology. However, they are often disconnected from their roots. And there is one thing they will not tolerate — toxicity. Even from family.

We talked about a truth I hold deeply.

DNA does not make a relationship. Love and peace do. To keep the next generation anchored to who they are, we must offer them something worth holding on to.
