The idea to have The Muslim Author Book Fair - TMABF event came about from experience with some bookstores in Abuja, Nigeria. 

After publishing my novel, Taken for Granted on Amazon in December 2020, I decided to put copies in some leading bookstores and visit the places. I got the shocker when one store said they were taking 30% of the selling price, another said 20%, and yet another - 25%. 

When I did the calculations, the profit left for me would amount to almost nothing. After much deliberation, I placed Taken for Granted in two of the stores. 

A writer friend experienced the same thing with her two children's books that she published. She discovered that by the time these bookstores remove their percentages, she would be left with almost nothing too.

The experiences got me thinking about how I can alleviate the stress for Muslim authors. By solving the problem of a platform where the readers can meet the authors in one place to have amazing networking as they make profits.

That was how TMABF was born.

I shared the idea with a friend because I wanted her input as an event organizer to know how I could go about it. 

We postponed the event twice in 2022 and I later decided to do it rather than having perfect timing. That was how I picked 1st October 2022 as the date for the Fair's first edition which happened and was successful. 😁

We're back for this year's edition!
