12 days of Christmas - Stopping modern offenses with the 4-3

Dec 28, 2020 1:12 am

Coach ,

Today’s offenses are designed to stress defenses in multiple ways. While 4-2-5, 3-4, and 3-3 have become prevalent, Pennsylvania state champion Eric Kasperowicz believes in the versatility of the 4-3 defense.

Coach Kasperowicz helped lead the 2020 the Pine-Richland Rams to their 4th WPIAL title in a row. In 2017, the Pine-Richland football team finished the season at the 16-0 and a Pennsylvania state championship while being ranked #10 nationally in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 football rankings.

They won it all again in 2020 going 11-0. The defense allowed only 12.1 points per game and didn’t allow more than two touchdowns in any game except for in the state semi-final.

As part of our 12 Days of Christmas, Kasperowicz shares his course “4-3 Defense and Trips Adjustments” with you for FREE.

For Kasperowicz defense starts with stopping the run. He runs the 4-3 for its run stopping power and these reasons:

To stop today’s offenses a defense must be versatile, and with all the reading of the RPO game and strong passing games, disguise is essential, and it’s a huge part of the Pine-Richland 4-3.

He brings unique perspective to defensive football having been an offensive coordinator for most of his career and it shows in the philosophy he has built his defense upon.

Kasperowicz shares his philosophy in detail in his 4-3 basics courseWhat’s most interesting about how Kasperowicz put his defense together is that everything he does to stress an offense is built upon the very strategies that offenses use to attack a defense.

Clearly the versatility and flexibility of aligning and being sound is important to a defense, and Kasperowicz explains their base alignment vs 21 personnel in this video.

Kasperowicz covers adjustments from 21 pro to 21 slot progressing to various trips and empty alignments in the course “4-3 Defense and Trips Adjustments” which is FREE to you now.
