Coach ,
Week one usually does not have many compelling match-ups, but this weekend definitely produced some notable wins and coaching performances from Colorado, Texas State, and Florida State.
Here’s a note or two on all three teams.
Coach Prime
Most notable is Coach Prime’s win over TCU in a great back-and-forth game. In an impressive offensive performance the Buffs broke records behind Sean Lewis’s offense. He called an exceptional game! If you have heard Coach Lewis before, he builds everything on culture, and while it is Coach Prime’s culture that he is driving now, you can be sure his finger prints are on the offensive unit.
With both the coaching talent and athletic talent, the Colorado Buffaloies will be a fun team to watch this season.
You can get both of his presentations on culture here.
Big Upset of BigXII
GJ Kinne made the jump from FCS to FBS and kicked off his FBS debut with a big upset of the Baylor Bears. Known for his offensive expertise, Coach Kinne made a big splash and immediate impact at Texas State.
Coach Kinne offensive staff at UIW (where he was prior to TSU) shared techniques on field at the Texas High School Coaches Coaching School. His UIW team led all FCS teams with 51.5 points per game and was second with 581.2 total yards in 2022.
Former Washington State Co-OC made a name for himself with his Spread-and-Shred offense and now is the passing game coordinator for the Bobcats. They put up solid numbers through the air with 298yards and 3 TD completing 22 of 30 passes (73%).
Here is Coach Stutzmann explaining his Levels concept.
Dan DaPrato is now the Special Teams Coordinator and Associate Head Coach for the Bobcats. He was at South Florida prior to TSU finishing there as the interim head coach. In this video he talks about how to create belief. I am sure he made an impact on the Bobcats belief heading into this game.
High Powered Offense & Critical Situation Defense
Florida State was impressive, especially in the second half of their win over LSU.
On offense, the Seminoles dominated the second half as LSU’s talent-laden offense was shut down, and outscored 31-7 as Florida State scored on every drive in the second half except for the final possession, when they took a knee twice.
Counter is one of the favorite’s for the Seminoles and they were #1 in the country in 2022. In this video, OC Alex Atkins shares a GY Counter from Pistol.

On the defensive side of the ball, led by DC Adam Fuller, the Noles shut down the Tigers allowing just 167 yards in the second halef which came against the second defensive unit late in the game. The Noles came up big in critical situations. In this video, Coach Fuller talks about studying an opponent and organizing his 3rd down calls.
