Season Preview Capsule

If you are a Huskies fan it is an exciting time. With arguably one of the most electric QB's in the country expect Washington to look to make a splash this season. Building upon last year and being the second best offense in the country won’t come without its struggles though.

Washington looks to replace three key pieces up front. Coming in to aid the Huskies will be Mississippi State transfer Dillon Johnson and former Michigan State receiver Germie Bernard. This squad is shaping up to be a force if they can sort out the offensive line early.

The Defense is the unit that needs to keep pace. If this team truly has CFB playoff hopes. Their strength lies within the box returning a bevy of talent on the D-Line and a huge amount of pressure from last season this is the squad that needs to be the tip of the spear. The secondary and the LBing corp will need to keep up with the rest of the pack for this team to really make its mark. Look for Jabbar Muhammed and Ralen Goforth to fill the voids in these areas.

Today we will take a look at the teaching methodology and beliefs of Huskies TE Coach Nick Sheridan.  For him, it all starts with a vision.

Vision

Know that your vision is going to guide everything you do and the way you act, play etc. In the end don’t take it from me, take it from Coach Sheridan. “What you do matters - how you do it matters more”.

Coach Sheridan does a great job of explaining it here:

Language - How are you talking

How are you talking to the other coaches? How are you talking to your players?

In getting everyone aligned in your offense, the first step is to Identify a common language among your staff and get everyone on the same page and allow this to trickle down to your players and reap the benefits.

Much of society today is dictated by language and the rhetoric used, falls on the good side of this. Understand one coach calling it a pop pass another calling it a buck pass and another coach saying a TE seam creates confusion and lapse among staff and players alike. Identify and uproot these issues. Coach Sheridan explains the importance of it in this video:

Coach Sheridan’s knowledge as a teacher of the game really shined through in this talk given at the Illinois HS Football Coaches Association Virtual Clinic.  For the Huskies, and any offense looking to excel in 2023, alignment of coaches and players is crucial, and that is made possible through the efficient use of of language and terminology.

Strive to Succeed!
