Coach ,
We recognize Tiffin University as our CoachesClinic Small College Team of the Week after a convincing win over conference rival Ashland University 55-30.
Overall TU had a massive offensive day, racking up 548 yards with a balanced attack. The Dragons had 280 through the air and 268 on the ground. They are receiving votes in the AFCA poll and come into this weekend at #30 in the nation.
They also have a top offense in the country:
#2 Total Offense 517 yards per game
#3 Scoring Offense 52.5 points per game
#8 Rushing 248.8 yards per game
QB Kason Martin ( #11 in the country with 11 passing TD) had a huge day against the Eagles, connecting on 22 of 30 passes for 280 yards and no interceptions along with just one sack. He threw for 4 touchdowns.
The Dragons ground game has been solid with their duo of running backs Devin Nelson (#11 in rushing yards - 45 carries for 388 yards and 4 TD, 6.78 yards per carry) and Ronald Blackman (#15 in rushing yards - 45 for 388 and 4 TD 8.62 ypc).
The Dragons have a very balanced attack and in watching them this past weekend, what stood out is how they plan and execute their screen game very well.
Head Coach Cris Reisert spoke about their screen game at Lauren’s First and Goal this past March.
The Dragons do a great job of integrating screens into their run and pass action, getting the ball to their dynamic players in space with blockers in front of them.
Coach Resiert explains illustrates examples of their 1 count and 2 count screens in the next two videos.
Expect the Dragons to continue on their upward trajectory as they continuously improve every week.
Notable performance on Defense: Robert Holtz is #14 in the country in sacks with 4.5 and #21 in TFL with 7.
Thank you to Coach Reisert for presenting at Lauren’s First and Goal. If you want to game plan and run screens better this presentation is worth watching!
Always be growing!
