I had the opportunity to sit down with Carlos Lynn and talk about his program at THSCA Coaching School in 2022.  He taked about his program as a full service program.  

Coach Lynn had the tall task of filling Texas Tech Head Coach Joey McGuire at Cedar Hill High School. Coach Lynn became the head coach following that impressive run under McGuire’s leadership. He led Cedar Hill to a state runner-up finish and had a record of 44-26 at the school.  

In 2022, adversity hit for Coach Lynn and a 2-8 season prompted a change at Cedar Hill.

Following his own advice of finding the opportunity in adversity, Coach Crowley was named head coach at Crowley HS in January 2023. 

Crowley was 8-23 in the three previous seasons.  In 2022, they finished 4-7 and were outscored  327-264. Coach Lynn has made the most of the opportunity and has Crowley off to a 5-0 start.

After Crowley averaged 24 points per game last season, Lynn installed a multiple spread attack that is more of a tempo offense. Crowley is now averaging 40 points, and junior quarterback Caleb Williams has thrown for 942 yards and 14 touchdowns, with only one interception, while completing 66% of his passes and running for a team-high 206 yards. Williams threw for 407 yards and five touchdowns in last week’s 50-29 win over Weatherford in the district opener.

As mentioned, Coach Lynn is no stranger to adversity, and it’s led him and his team to where they are today.

He talked about “Adversity University” at the THSCA Coaching School and emphasized the opportunities that come along with adversity.

Whether you are dealing with adversity now, or most likely will have some later this season, like Coach Lynn you can find the opportunities and lead your team out of it better than when adversity hit.
