Coach

Mike Denbrock has had several stops and plenty of experiences along his journey as a coach

In the roles he has had, he understands what being a good assistant means. Now he applies that philosophy to help Coach Luke Fickell build the program at Cincinnati.

He has kept a focus on where he is at and doing the best possible job for the program he’s at and for the kids that he coaches.

He’s made improving himself and the people around him a daily habit. His part of the effort has brought Cincinnati to the top of college football with the Bearcats sitting at #5 this week, and most likely moving into the top 4 if they take care of business on tomorrow night against Temple.

Coach Denbrock likes to start his attack by figuring out ways to run the football. Coach Fickell has stated time and time again that Cincy is a offensive line driven program.

He likes to use RPO to help even the numbers so they are not outnumbered in the run game.

Of course the three down Tite front has become a popular way to stop the running game against spread teams. Coach Denbrock shares how they attack the Tite front with the 11 personnel run game and a read of the Mike linebacker with a TE running the flat route. It creates a triple option play. There’s some preferences in how to attack a four down front as well. Coach Debrock explains how they add an RPO to their split zone play which they call “Fax.” Their RPO variation is called “Copy.” It’s a TE based RPO that they use to attack a four down team. He doesn’t like it as much against three down as he explains the concept in this video

These concepts provide the Bearcats the answers they need against the multiple fronts they will see each week.

The Bearcats have done a great job in playing complimentary football with their offense, defense, and special teams working together.

One thing is for sure, if the Bearcats keep playing like they are, it will be very hard to exclude them from the College Football Play-offs.

Thank you to Coach Denbrock for sharing his knowledge in his clinic TE-Driven RPO. There’s definitely some great coaching points in this one.

Always be growing!
