Offense – Moving the Chains
TCU welcomed Bill Belichick to college football with a convincing win. The Horned Frogs put up 542 yards of offense.
Coaching Insight: Get the first first down to be able to Tempo a defense. It starts with the QB being “Need” not “Greedy” being sure they always take advantage of what the defense gives

Defense – Lockdown Strategies
Texas Tech will face much tougher opponents that Arkansas Pine Bluff. The Red Raiders did start the season off with a stingy defensive performance holding APB to 175 total yards (123 pass and 52 run).

Special Teams – Hidden Yardage
Coaching Insight: Special Teams Path to Greatness - The bottom line for special teams is that these are all opportunities to alter the game. There are more ways to score on teams than on offense and defense combined. Create the largest advantage you can with your coordination and operation. But also develop experience, alter field position, and build upon technique and fundamentals through the time you have with special teams to grow your offense and defense.

Notable Performances & Recognition
- High School Spotlight: Jason Todd, Head Coach, South Oak Cliff led the Bears to an upset win of #23 North Shore.

- College Spotlight: Tarleton State had an overtime upset of Army on the road winning 30-27 in double overtime. Effort is always a factor in an upset, and it’s something that defensive coordinator Ty Nix sets as a standard. He defines it and shares a game example in this video clip:
THSCA Feature of the Week
#8 Duncanville is the highest ranked of Texas teams in the country so far in this young 2025 season. South Lake Carroll jumped to #18 after defeating Midland 49-0, and North Crowley checks in at #20.
This week we feature Duncanville Head Coach Reginald Samples. He shared the components of their off-season program which brought the Panthers their first title since 1998. The long-time Godfather of Dallas football finally checked off the final box in his Hall of Fame career. In 34 seasons he has won 373 games as a head coach.
That consistency begins in the weight room. He explains the importance of making most of the time you have available to develop your team here (click on all images for videos):
