I'm being replaced by AI

Hi ,

With all the news about AI replacing us, it's easy to feel concerned about the future.

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that our children shouldn't learn to code. https://youtu.be/6Lcy2N3YcIs?si=uVfxxDN8KEQDNxQF

Cognition has released a video introducing Devin, The first AI Software Engineer. https://youtu.be/fjHtjT7GO1c?si=QKNzPvnitx-hq1c8

Well, this sounds quite grim. Should we all look for alternative careers?

I say no! The AI revolution will change our business in similar ways that the Industrial Revolution changed the life of a factory worker.

There will still be a need for software developers, but what we do might change. We must be willing to embrace the new reality or be left behind.

AI won't replace a software developer, but a software developer using AI will replace one that doesn't.

We should use AI tools to help us become more productive. There is so much more than ChatGPT available. Some examples are:

GitHub Copilot: https://github.com/features/copilot

JetBrains AI-assistant: https://www.jetbrains.com/ai/

Continuous feedback: https://digma.ai

We recently started using copilot in my project. Expect a blog post about our experiences with AI-assisted coding.

I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with AI-assisted coding. What worked well? What were your biggest challenges?

Enjoy,

Markus Westergren
