Deliberate practice

Hi ,

"It's not about what you do but how you do it" - Sebastian Daschner

Last week I had the privilege of talking to Java Champion Sebastian Daschner. He was the guest in our weekly mentoring meeting and we talked about public speaking and how we as developers can become more independent.

My main takeaway from the meeting was that to become successful, we need to have a mindset to improve. We should strive to always improve in everything we do.

Reflect and ask yourself the question, what can I improve? Focus on learning one thing at a time.

We should find ways to accelerate learning by deliberately practicing what we need to improve. We can use a good mentor to help speed this process up even more.

To learn a new skill we have to deliberately and consistently practice it.

My plan is, to reflect daily on things I can do to improve my productivity and how I can deliberately practice those things. I will also set aside 5 minutes per day to practice this thing.

My challenge to you is to do the same. Please let me know your results. I'll share my experience in upcoming emails.

Make sure you check out Sebastians' site which contains lots of material related to developer productivity: https://www.sebastian-daschner.com/

Enjoy
