From Middle America to the Ends of the Universe
Happy Wednesday!
Happy May. If you're wondering about the subject line, it's not about this month. All is well with me and my family. The kids' school year is almost over.
The subject line is a quote from one of my early novels, New California. Spoken by one of Desmond Park's followers as she lies dying after taking a bullet meant for him. The T. S. Eliot misquote makes sense in context, I promise.
New California came to mind because I'm refreshing cover images for some of my older novels. Still a work in progress, but the overall trend is in the right direction... the image on the right looks more like an interstellar intrigue/rebellion story, doesn't it?
Writing Update
I've taken a break from Toffib War Book 1. For whatever reason, the energy hasn't been there. It's an interesting universe, but maybe not the story I most want to tell in it.
I've taken a break from that project, but I have others I'm working on. A short story or two to cleanse my palate while the next big project comes to me.
As I mentioned in one of the first emails you received from me, I want to write stories and novels and series from the heart. I write enough documents I don't love at my day job.
And whenever that next short story gets published in a magazine or that big project hits bookstores, you'll hear it here first.
Need a Free Book?
I recently read the first four chapters of The Orphan Race by Jenny Jones. It's space opera, less nuts-and-bolts than what I usually read, but had some fun concepts. One distinctive feature is the solar system of the 3030s has a lot of Latin American influence. My biggest complaint is the first four chapters don't get us to the interstellar planet full of dragons promised at the download page!
If that sounds like your kind of book, you can download the first four chapters of The Orphan Race for free. It's her first book and I'm curious to see how much she grows from here.
If you download it, let me know what you think. I want to make sure any author links I share are ones you want to receive.
Till next time,
Happy Reading!
