Voice recognition mistake of the day: “He tried to chuckle but it came out a kind of horse wheeze.” Neigh, no wheezing horses!

That was from my current work in progress, Pride and Prejudice at the Cat CafĂŠ. I hope to finish it this autumn.

I got a lovely message from a reader: “I love how grounded and realistic your stories, situations, and characters feel, even when the stories are action-packed mysteries or adventures. I feel like I could hang out with these people in real life.” Thanks, Colleen! 😊

imageNew Release: Someone Murderous at The Midnight Motel comes out October 2 and you can preorder it now! This is book 5 in The Accidental Detective humorous mystery series: a witty journalist solves mysteries in Arizona and tackles the challenges of turning fifty.

When an old friend asks Kate and Jen to investigate suspicious activity at a motel he inherited, it sounds like a free vacation with a little surveillance thrown in. Then Kate's hot flashes wake her in the middle of the night, she wanders outside to cool off, and she stumbles into a crime scene. Soon they’re caught up in their toughest—and most dangerous—case yet.

imageKate and Jen can’t trust anyone at the motel or the local police force they suspect of corruption. Good thing they have their eclectic senior sidekicks to share the undercover work. With this enthusiastic but inexperienced team on the job, things are sure to break soon. They just have to make sure they can survive the damage.
