😸 Catnip as insect repellent and a lovely retreat view
Nov 26, 2021 11:11 pm
Voice recognition mistake of the day: "She pushed open the door to the cat room with her shoulder, since her hands were full, and flipped through." Apparently I was writing about an acrobat. 🤸♀️
I had a great writing retreat last week with some friends who flew in to New Mexico from out of town. Here's the view from outside our lodging at the Norbertine Abbey south of Albuquerque.
Fun Fact: “A study at Iowa State University suggests that nepetalactone, a chemical in catnip, is 10 times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET, the chemical used in almost all insect repellents.” – Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Cat Lover's Companion
The ferrets were happy to have me home from my writing retreat. We took them with us for our Thanksgiving trip to visit my mother in Phoenix.
The Writing Life: Facebook brought up this memory: I don't know how I accidentally turned my document language to French. I also don't know how I fixed it, because online instructions weren't working. But eventually it told me it didn't have a Dutch dictionary, so it defaulted back to English. 🤷♀️
Everyone is recommending starting holiday shopping early this year. How about giving your cat-loving friends print copies of cat café romance novels? If you can't get physical objects delivered in time, you can send e-books as gifts. Visit the Furrever Friends Sweet Romance series page on Amazon US or or Amazon UK. (For other countries click here.)
PS: If you haven't yet gotten Lions and Love at the Cat Café, you can download it free here. For “22 of the recipes mentioned in Kris Bock's Furrever Friends Sweet Romance series,” go here. (Both are free).

Bonus mistake: Truth in advertising or an amusing typo in this email from the blood donation center? "This blood drive is needed. I always tell my donors how short we are on blood. But truly fiends we are." (I give blood regularly and they are not fiends.)
