Voice recognition mistake of the day: "Of course I'll maim you in a book." That was supposed to be *name you*. It is a writer's prerogative to injure and kill off annoying people through our work, but I don't usually threaten people that way in e-mail.

I visited my mother in Phoenix last week. We went through some photos and found treasures such as this – Bath time at my grandparents' historic house in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. The big sink in the basement was the only 'tub' in the place.

Sadly, much of the Southwest is suffering from fires. None are close to our house, but we are still getting the smoke blowing in from hundreds of miles away. It's not good for asthmatic lungs, but it does make for some nice sunsets.

Meanwhile, ferrets Bear Bear and Panda are constantly amusing.
