Setting daily writing goals with Pacemaker

Hello, writers!

It both feels like it’s still March 2020 and also the year 2043, what is time? And yet, time seems to be relentlessly moving forward because we are now just under 2 full months before NaNoWriMo!

If you haven’t heard of it before, November is National Novel Writing Month during which tens of thousands of people world-wide challenge themselves to write 50,000 words of a novel in the 30 days of November. Sounds daunting, but it’s totally doable. I first learned of it in high school and won for the first time my freshman year of college. (I had an hour-long train commute.) I’ve since had over 10 wins, and I’m hoping to do so again this year.

The next few months of newsletters will be geared toward NaNoWriMo, but by no means useful exclusively to people who will be participating.

Today I have an overview of a great free tool called Pacemaker that will help you plan how much you should write on a given day to meet your goal. No month-long challenge required.

(Or maybe time is just a quarantine-induced delusion!)

In other news, we tried this method on the first steaks we’ve had in ages and they were outstandingly good. The secret is to use an incredibly hot pan to start, and save all the flavorings until after the steak’s browned so they don’t burn in the hot pan. So good!

Counting down the days,
