going back to basics: breathe with me?

Hey friends!


I hope your May has been so good. We are quickly approaching June, and it feels like SO much has been happening. Summer is coming and all the activities are crammed into these short weeks. There's a sense of urgency to get it all done, at least here in Alaska when our summer is as short as it is. (Hoping we get some sun here SOON!)

I would like to invite you to just take a moment to breathe with me today, and allow some quiet into your busy day. Deep, diaphragmatic breaths are one of the best free things you can do for not only your physical health, but your mental health too!


Find a comfortable position with your feet rooted beneath you, and we're going to do 5 breaths together. You can look at this buttery flower photo or close your eyes if you feel comfortable as you breathe.


Inhale through your nose for your own count of 4:

Fill up your belly, ribs, and finally your chest. See if you can relax your pelvic floor muscles to make even more space for that breath in.


Hold for your count of 4:

Avoid straining, but see if you can get to 4 while holding your breath at the top!


Exhale through rounded lips (like you're gonna blow a kiss) for your own count of 8:

If you're feeling up to it, see if you can add in a slight lift of your pelvic floor, like you're drawing up and in with those muscles. Think: "pick up a blueberry with your vagina, but don't crush it"


Repeat this four more times.


Notice how much more relaxed you feel after this practice. Feel free to come back to this and repeat this sequence whenever you need.


Even though we are all far apart, we can still breathe and move together and when we're in community, we thrive.
