[reko.day] Money Money Money 💰

Happy Friday!
What an interesting week. Between hardware failures, my AC going out, and several other things I was able to make a bit of progress. So here's a video talking through one of the more important topics in Reko Day: Money.
The premise of Reko Day is to connect farmers and shoppers, and so it is important to me to stay out of the money side of things. Specifically, that means I've designed Reko Day to make it so shoppers pay farmers directly. If you pay for tomatoes in the app, the money goes directly to the farmer. I never see that money, and I don't take a cut of it.
Now, to pull that off, the farmers need to basically give banking information to receive your payment. For that, I'm using Stripe, which is one of the largest online payment providers in the world. They will securely manage that information and the transaction itself. If you've done any online shopping, there is an extremely high chance Stripe is what made that happen.
What this means is that Reko Day can let people directly buy and sell to one another without a middle-man. Reko Day can focus on its core problem of connecting growers and shoppers and let providers like Stripe handle the money.
Another side of this, though, is that building and maintaining an app is expensive, and so that means I do need to make money. I had considered taking a cut of the transactions, but I thought that felt gross and would encourage price inflation. Also, anyone who orders using services like DoorDash with all the added fees and die a little inside each time. That's not what I want for anyone using Reko Day. So I decided to use a simple and cheap subscription.
Folks who want to buy on Reko Day will need a subscription. I want to make it really cheap so that it isn't too much of a financial strain but is enough for me to pay for my efforts. Here's where I've landed on that so far:
An Annual Subscription: $24.99
A Monthly Subscription: $3.99
Let me know what you think about those prices!
To pull off managing those subscriptions, I'll be using Apple's In-App Purchase system, which folks use all the time to buy apps, music, movies, and even manage subscriptions to streaming services. You'll see how that looks in the video.
Again, using Apple's services provides security and reliability with sensitive information, and that's incredibly important to me.
So with that, I hope you know a bit more about how your financial information will be protected when using Reko Day and if you want to try the app out now, just send me an email and you can check it out!
Sincerely,
Ryan
