[reko.day] Let the Beta Begin 📱

Jun 09, 2023 2:10 pm

Happy Friday!

Several of you will have emails from Apple this morning to tell you how to get early access to reko.day.

As always, if you want to try it out and test it, reply to this email and let me know!

The app, in its current condition, is not complete, and there will be things that don't work because I haven't built it yet. So, this will be a bit of an odd experience for those of you who've never tested software as it's being built.

When I release a new version to you all, I'll put notes in for what to look at so that you can see what's new and changed.

In general, though, I want to hear your reactions to the app in the most direct way possible. It's fine to tell me you don't like parts or even the whole thing. It's great to tell me where it's confusing. It's lovely to tell me what you wish it did instead!

So look out for that email, give the app a download, and have fun!

Now in terms of the app's progress, I've been focusing a lot on cleanup stuff. I realized I got into a bad habit of working hard on one thing for a day, then doing something completely different the next. So that thing from the day before may not be nearly as done as I'd like, and I was leaving a little trail of things to fix up.

So I'm going through and fixing things up.

Two things, in particular, got a bit of work.

  • Using Google Maps or Apple Maps to get directions to your reko
  • Making sure you can't order more of a product than actually exists

The first one is pretty obvious, and it's satisfying to see work. The second one though is one of those little things I just left behind in my early work. There's more cleanup to do with it, but I've made it pretty hard to order beyond the capacity of the seller.

I'm still hoping to submit the app to the app store this month, so I'll let you know as soon as that happens.

Oh, before I forget! I went to a local farmer's market this past Saturday, and the organizer was interested in having reko.day be the official app for the city's farmer's market!

Sincerely,

Ryan

PS: If any of you know someone who is good at marketing I'd love to talk to them.
