Hey
My siblings and I were recently chatting with our mum, who’s currently enjoying a holiday in the US.
One of them said, “I hear you’ve been walking to church daily and everywhere else. Take it easy ooo.”
Her response put the biggest grin on my face.
She said, “I’m taking Tochi’s advice. I’m walking everywhere possible so I can get my steps in.”
That made me smile because my mum listened to my advice.
We've signed my mum up at the gym multiple times, but she hasn’t quite fallen in love with it. I get it; it’s a brand-new behavior, and she’s almost seventy years old. That phrase, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” definitely applies here.
But since movement is non-negotiable, I helped my mum see that hitting the gym isn’t the only option. A walk can be just as effective for getting a good workout.
If you have parents who aren’t conditioned to exercise, you can encourage them find other ways to move their bodies to support their aging journey.
Walking remains the easiest and most accessible option.
Our parents have done so much for us, and I know we support them in many ways. Consider this another way you can support their longevity.
Will you take up this challenge?
Please share your experience with me; I’d love to hear all about it.
Till next time
Tochi Okafor
