Hey
I have never had a small waist even as a teenager. I have always loved my body as it was and focused on maintaining it. In my 30's I spent an average of 90 mins at the gym at least 5 days a week and I had done so for about 9 years consistently before 2020 when Covid -19 hit.
During the lockdown, one of the weekends we were allowed to go to the market I went for a quick shopping trip with a friend. I got to the chicken stand but I wasn't happy with the chicken on display so I left without buying chicken or any animal protein on that day.
From that day I tweaked my diet, and by July of 2020, I was able to fit into a dress I had bought a year prior that didn't fit. I couldn't believe it, my new way of eating had led to a more visible waistline in 90 days than years of just working out.
Asides from drastically reducing my animal protein (I now eat it every other day), there were other behaviors that led to this change. I'll share a few of those here.
1) Intermittent fasting (16/8hrs): Before you practice this please speak with your doctor.
2) Raw meals: I replaced one cooked meal with either a salad, smoothie or a parfait
3) Cut out refined sugars (especially sodas and packed juices)
4) Reduced my rice portions by half and substituted it with vegetables
5) Perfomed specific ab exercises
6) Drank a minimum of 2L of water per day
Honestly I couldn't believe what I saw in the mirror, a waist line I never had even as a teenager I now do at 40. This experience validates the popular notion that weight loss is 70% nutrition and only 30% exercise.
