Relentless in 2022

As my writing resolution this year, I've set my writing goal for 2022 at 1000 words a day. Which is important, because the meme above is 100% accurate. Just as I finish up one project and pat myself on the back, another one looms on the horizon. Case in point, I just finished up my short story "Vocational Rehab" for the next We Dare anthology by Jamie Ibson (I had tons of fun with it, it might be my most humorous story to date) and now I'm hard at work finishing up my piece of the next 4HU Wrogul novel with Rob Hampson and Sandra Medlock. When I'm done with that, it's back to finishing my Fallen World novel set at the Air Force Academy. It's a vicious cycle.

In other news, I hope everyone's been staying healthy. I had a few family members with some minor symptoms show positive for COVID, with the end result being that I missed out on Albuquerque Comic Con this last weekend. I was hoping to meet up with Todd Fahnestock and Marie Whittaker who were out for it--two creators of the Elders Legacy series--but I suppose I'll have to catch up with them another time.

It could've been worse, I'm happy the symptoms were minor and didn't last long.

On to happier things, like new releases!

As my final push for my Civil War monster hunting book Witch Hunt-- the audio has been released. Get it here:

While we're talking about audio, the Four Horsemen anthology In The Wings, featuring yours truly with a story about how a tough-as-nails female dropship pilot found herself recruited by a shadowy black ops rescue organization.

Next up, new releases from Chris Kennedy.

My last newsletter was just a tad too late to promote this, the latest and greatest from the creators of the Four Horsemen Universe. This is the pivot point we've all been waiting for, the opening sequence of the next over-arching chapter in the series.

Trapped on all sides…

The Dusman have accepted the Humans as allies but have given no indications as to what their long-term intentions are. Their goals have to be large, though, as they continue to spread their influence across the Human colonies… and beyond.

Fighting continues to rage between the guilds, both in the shadows and out in the open for all to see. Although one of the Synthetic Intelligences has been killed, the others are now restive, acting from the shadows to affect events galaxy-wide. Unfortunately, the search for Minerva—the Science Guild SI—hasn’t borne any fruit; wherever Minerva is, she is sure to be plotting the downfall of humanity in general and the Four Horsemen in particular, and she will likely strike when humanity least expects it.

Civilizations battle civilizations, looking to redress old grievances. This should be a time of great profit for the Mercenary Guild, yet the guild sits on the sidelines, allowing the battles to rage nearly unchecked.

Meanwhile, the threat of the Kahraman grows ever nearer. Although they withdrew, everyone knows they haven’t gone far, and they could show up again at a moment’s notice.

As the end of The Guild Wars draws near, only one thing is certain—the tempest will rage until the very end.

A second chance… at life.

When a natural disaster destroys Charlie’s planet, she almost survives the carnage, dying just a few minutes before a rescue crew would have saved her.

When she wakes up again, a number of surprises await her, not the least of which is that she’s been brought back to life. In addition to that unlikely event, she’s also been taken to another planet and drafted into the Combined Service, a service composed of all the allied races—octopods, gu’ul, avians, and the upstart humans, who the others aren’t sure they can trust.

Being drafted does serve one purpose, though: it allows her to get off the planet on which she finds herself, giving her the only chance she has to get back to the planet of her birth, where she hopes to find her missing family. When she’s offered the chance to serve aboard the Magnetar, the first jointly operated cruiser of the Combined Service, she seizes the chance.

But the Magnetar is on a dangerous mission: to return an octopod terrorist, Praetori, to the home world of the octopods. No one has ever successfully held an octopod captive, and the only thing found of the last ship that tried—the Roggewein—were tiny pieces.

Will Charlie and the Magnetar see the prisoner transfer to its successful conclusion, or will they suffer the same unexplained and disastrous fate as the Roggewein?

For those who missed it, the Overrun anthology is available for pre-release, which features my Fallen Empire short story "Milk Run", the lead in to my Fallen Empire novel with Cannon Publishing.

The Grausian Interstellar Empire has fallen and the ruins are for the taking. In the Twenty Seventh Century that means whoever can field the best military, and on the DMZ worlds, that means Private Military Contractors. Five stories that explore the world introduced to great acclaim and rave reviews in “The Irish Brigade”.

My story is "Milk Run": A Terran Marine Corps Search and Rescue Unit reforms after the war as Field Extraction and Recovery Services, the FXRS "Fixers", to ply their trade as mercenaries. Along the way they learn the hard truth about loyalty, lives and money and which one means more to the bottom line.
