The Philadelphia 76ers had an impressive win in game 4 against the Boston Celtics.
The series is now tied 2-2 - and both teams are looking to make adjustments moving forward.
The 76ers have done an impressive job defending Tatum and Brown off the pick and roll - however, their scheme has changed each game.
Brian Adams, 76ers assistant coach, is one of the best teachers in the game of basketball on defending the pick and roll.
Here are 3 ways the 76ers defend the pick and roll:
#1 - Blitz & Drop Coverage
The 76ers are true believers that the success of a pick and roll is not just made up of the 2 players in the coverage.
Helpside is key in defending the pick and roll successfully.
In blitz coverage, the pocket pass will be open.
Therefore, helpside is key in defending the action.
#2 - Unders
The most important tactic in going under is being at the point of the screen.
If you have a high volume of unders - you have to worry about your players getting lazy.
Therefore, switching from unders to another scheme can help confuse the defense.
#3 - Veer Back
The veer back is a scheme that is used in special citations for the 76ers.
It is used as a late emergency switch at the rim.
This allows a peel off switch which takes away the drive at the rim.
This has become a very popular switch off the pick and roll in the last couple years.
The 76ers have done a terrific job over the course of the series defending the Celtics in the pick-and-roll.
This complimentary course can help your team become a better defensive team this fall by giving your team different schemes on how to defend the pick and roll.
