Playing fast & aggressive is one of the hardest things to defend in the game of basketball.

Coach Coby Karl has built his philosophy on playing with pace, aggression and creativity.

Coach Karl is the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers G-League affiliate Delaware Blue Coats who won the 2022-23 NBA G League Champions 🏆 this season.

Karl played in the NBA with the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets

A team that plays fast takes a team that is in incredible shape. However, it also takes many principles to make a successful transition offense.

The principles that make a successful offense consists of different cuts, actions and a certain mentality.

The 3 principle cuts that Coach Karl looks to get in his high-paced offense:

#1 - Go & Catch

The Go & Catch principle is a method to get players downhill faster.

It consists of when the ball is in the air to go under the ball and catch the basketball on the run.

This will result in being harder to guard because it happens so fast.

#2 - W-S Slot Slot Cut

The weak side slot cut is also known in the basketball world as the 45 cut.

The weak side slot cut is a great cut for any time the basketball is driven on one side because the help defense is set on the split line.

The weak side cut should be open because the defenders will be in the help side.

One of the best ways to get to the weak side cut comes from when a player rejects a ball screen. This will get the guard downhill fast resulting in the defense having to be in their help principles.

#3 - Deng-LeBron Cut

The Deng-LeBron Cut is similar to the Go & Catch cut.

It consists of a quick swing of the basketball then a quick sprint to receive the basketball on the run.

This is a hard action to defend because it happens very fast and most defenses jump to the ball on the passes.

LeBron James is very good at this cut and you will see it in the example below.
