4 Horns Flex Variations from Around The World

Coach ,

While the flex offense has dropped in popularity as a continuity offense, flex actions are still popular as an initial play action.

Here are 4 flex plays to check out for your team this season, or next.

1.) Flex Rip

Flex rip action is an action that starts with the flex, then ends with a rip screen and a down screen.  After the initial flex action, 5 will reverse the ball to 1 stepping out to the wing.  3 will back screen for 4, who cuts to the rim.  5 will then down screen for 3.

2.) Slovenia Flex Handoff

Between 2010-2019, the Slovenian national team would use flex action to set up a handoff situation for the point guard to attack from.  When 5 flashes to the top off 1’s screen, 4 passes to 5.  1 will come back and get the ball from 5 as 2 and 3 fills the corner.  1 will read the defender and look to attack the lane.

3.) Flex DHO

A very similar action to our previous play.  As the down screen with 4 is occurring, 5 will dribble handoff with 1.  5 rolls to the basket, 4 replaces and 2 and 3 spot up on the opposite side of the floor.

4.) Flex Step Up

Step up screens can be very effective to create dribble penetration going down hill toward the basket.  In this action, the PG follows the pass and could possibly get a quick handback and drive to the rim.  1 continues and sets the baseline screen for 3 and then 5 screens down for 1.  1 needs to catch the ball above the free throw line extended in order to create spacing for the step up action.  5 sprints up and sets the screen.
