No Boards No Rings - Drills to Dominate Rebounding

Coach ,

The late great Pat Summit said “No Rebounds No Championships”.

Let’s take a look at why rebounding is so important to our success.

How many teams shoot 50% or better? Well, not that many especially at the youth, high school, and college-level of play. If that is the case then there is a missed shot more than 50% of the time so you need to be getting those.

A rebound is not just secured by the tallest and strongest player on the team if that was the case then Shaquille O'Neal would have led the league in rebounding. Rebounding is a desire and will to want to get the ball

Such greats as 6’5 Charles Barkley led the NBA in rebounding for a season the shortest player to do it and some will argue the greatest rebounder of all time 6’8 Dennis Rodman who made his career as a rebounder. These two players just outworked and had a desire to rebound the ball.

How can you drill this?

Coach Jamy Bechler who is known for his rebounding prowess shows you exactly how in these clips below.  Drills that instill that desire to outwork your opponent and develop the traits that make up great rebounders regardless of size.

In this drill below Coach Bechler shows how he gets the hustle and desire to go after offensive rebounds in his “Half-Court Hustle Drill.image

I really like how he uses this drill and has them make two shots and emphasizes not traveling,

Coach Bechler teaches the “hit and get” method of defensive rebounding on perimeter jump shots. In this clip below he breaks down how he teaches it in his hit and get drill.

Coach Bechler does a great job of teaching and has some fantastic drills on various rebounding situations from offensive, defensive and free throw situations.

After his team led the nation in Rebounding Margin (+19) Rebounds per game (55 rpg) and offensive rebounding (21/game) his peers all asked him to make some videos to share his secrets, so here you go.
