3 Keys in Coach Warner’s Analytical System at Flagler College:

A system he created & implemented that helped lead Flagler to a top 10 nationally ranked defense and a trip to the 2021 Final Four.

#1 - Points Per Possession

Points per possession drive Flagler’s defensive principles. 

Flagler’s defense is built on taking away easy 2’s and wide-open 3’s.

Coach Warner wants his defense to force tough 2’s and contested shots.

The key to all of these goals is having a set defense.

#2 - Sticking the Ball 

80% of turnovers happen when players drive in traffic.

Sticking the ball is Flagler’s version of the stunt and swipe.

The key to Coach Warner’s sticking to the ball is being positioned halfway between his man and the basketball. 

This allows the defender to be more aggressive and raises the percentages of creating a turnover.

#3 - Guarding MD’s 

MD’s are players that a defense must “make dribble”. 

The key to guarding MD’s is taking away the 3 ball.

Flagler’s defense is built on forcing the offense to take tough 2’s.

Therefore, the defense has to be aggressive on running players off the line and making players dribble of the 3 point line.
