Coach Todd Simon’s offense is built on pick and rolls which helped him capture last season’s Big Sky Coach of the Year and a Big Sky Conference Regular Season Championship.

Sitting at 2-0 in the early part of the conference schedule, Southern Utah promises to be in the hunt again.

Here are 5 Pick and Roll Sets from Coach Simon’s Playbook:

#1 - Pistol Hammer

Pistol Hammer is an action Coach Simon uses if he needs a quick 2 or 3

The action comes fast because it initiates off a step up screen on a two man side.

This allows the guard to get to the paint with the open for the layup or the baseline drift pass off the hammer screen.

#2 - Double High Reject

Double High Reject is a very good counter for a double drag.

Coach Simon believes that anytime a player can reject a screen - they should do so.

By rejecting the double drag, the guard gets downhill quickly to an advantage.

This puts a domino effect on the defense of what they will want to give up to the offense.

#3 - Stack Angle Nail Pop

The stack action has a unique alignment.

Two players are stacked right around the free throw line - with the other two players in both corners.

This is an interesting alignment because the stack look can provide so many different sets.

This set is looking to get into a spread step up screen with a pick and pop player.

#4 - Pin to Step Up

The Pin to Step Up is a unique set that gets the players into a quick 2 man game.

The action is all about getting an advantage as fast as possible.

The roll man then rolls - followed by the other players filling behind the play.

This is a good late game action if you need a quick 2.

#5 - Horns Rescreen Reject

The Horns alignment is one of the best alignements in all of basketball.

Horns Rescreen Reject is a good Horns double ball screen counter.

This set is all about getting the point guard into the paint to make a play.
