Hi ,
I'd like to share with you some speech habits that I find to be very distracting to ensure you express yourself in the most natural way possible.
Here are the Four distracting speech habits to avoid, and one simple way to improve your communication.
The 4 distracting talking styles to avoid are:
The Speedy Talker 💨
The Monotone Talker 😐
The Upspeak Talker ⤴️
The Indirect Talker 🫣
Now take a moment to notice how YOU communicate regularly 🗣️
You will improve your career opportunities and your professional relationships when you can identify and improve your communication style.
Want to know the simple way to start improving your speaking voice today?
Record yourself!
I know, I know, listening to a recording of ourselves speaking may seem terrifying, BUT (you knew there was a but coming) listening to yourself reveals how you actually sound, it's so very helpful. You can follow my 4-step self-recording process:
- Open up your phone's voice memo recorder app.
- Record yourself saying aloud your 30 second elevator pitch.
- Include your name, your work title, what you do for a living, and one fun fact about yourself- in 30 seconds or less.
- Listen back to discover your talking style.
If you want my help to know your talking style, watch me demonstrate the four talking styles in my short video here:
The truth is we all have a mix of different speech habits. I am a recovering FAST Talker to this day, and I use daily speech strategies and exercises to slow down when I speak. It's a practice and a process!
