My favourite supermarket isn't there anymore πŸ˜₯

G'day ,

When you move to a new place, it takes a while to settle in (1). You need some time to learn where all the different shops are.

That was my experience when I moved to a new town about eighteen months ago.

Everything went well. I explored (2) the different areas of the town and shopped at most of the supermarkets.

The thing I liked best was the little shopping centre just a ten-minute walk from my flat. It had a small post office (great for posting birthday cards to friends and family) and the supermarket that became my favourite.

I really liked this supermarket and not just because it was so close to my house. It was better than some others in the town because of the wide range of items it sold. And the prices were pretty good, too!

The delicatessen (3) section there became the place I liked the best when I needed to buy cheese, ham, or bacon. It took me several months to learn what kind of cheese had a flavour I liked. Over time I tried several different ones, to find something that worked for me.

OK, I admit (4) - the shop wasn't as modern as it could have been. However, I didn't care; it was still nicer than some supermarkets I've been in.

Just before Christmas, I saw a poster, and my heart sank. They were closing!

At first I thought it might only be for a few months to update the shop.

No, they were closing forever πŸ˜₯.

I was so disappointed.

However, there is some good news.

Another supermarket is moving into the space later in the year.

Because it's so close to my place, I'm sure I'll do some of my shopping there.

Will I like it as much? I guess that depends.

It'll depend a bit on the range of items they offer and how friendly and helpful the staff are. But it'll mainly depend on the delicatessen section and if I can get a good cheese there.

Are any shops changing near where you live, ? Did you go to the old shop regularly? Do you think you'll go to the new shop? I'd love to hear your experiences.

Stay warm,

Andrea

(1) settle in - feel comfortable in a new place. Feel like the place is 'normal'.

(2) explored - went out to see what was there, to discover new things or places

(3) delicatessen - a shop or part of a supermarket that sells high quality or foreign/international prepared foods

(4) to admit - to say that something true, even when we don't want to e.g. I don't want to admit it, but I was wrong.
