Happy New Year ,
Yes, I know, I'm a bit late. But it's my first email for the year, so I think it's OK to wish you a Happy New Year.
How was your Christmas? Did you get a break?
As most of you know, I travelled to Tasmania to see my family for my Christmas holiday. By the time you read this, I'll be almost have landed in Frankfurt again, as long as the planes are on schedule!
I had a great time. I met five nieces and nephews that weren't born when I was there last time (12 years ago).
Because my sister (the mother of all the children) lives on a farm very close to where Mum and Dad live, I stayed with Mum and Dad and then most mornings I walked to my sister's place and brushed the goats while she milked them. That was fun - and the goats enjoyed it, too!
As my sister has started making her own cheese, I also learnt a bit about cheese-making. It was very interesting, but not something I think I'll start doing - unless I find a way to get lots of cheap milk!
For the last week of my time away, I flew to another (warmer!) part of Australia, where my brother now lives. It was great seeing the area around his new place and enjoying some really warm weather.
On the hottest day we went to Brisbane and ended up doing a huge walk. Not the best thing in 37°C! But it was great being in Brisbane again. I was able to show him some things that he hadn't seen before.
My brother and his wife have a couple of dogs. Most mornings while I was there, we took the dogs to the beach for a walk. It was a lovely way to start the day.
We couldn't go to any beach - we went to a special beach where you are allowed to let your dogs run free, off their leash (1). The dogs think it's great!
Well, that was my holiday. Feel free to tell me what you got up to!
Until next week,
Andrea
(1) leash - the rope or chain that you fix to a dog's collar so that you have control of where it walks.
