Hi there ,
A couple of months ago I wrote about travelling to Limburg very spontaneously, thanks to the 9β¬ tickets. And some of you have heard about a couple of my other weekend adventures. Well, I had a totally crazy day on Saturday. Let me tell you about it ...
I thought I would go to Speyer. The train left on time (8:12 a.m.) and I thought it would be a great day. At Mannheim I got off to change trains, but unfortunately my connection was cancelled. I had to wait ages for the next one, so instead I chose a new destination - Heidelberg.
I visited Heidelberg at Easter this year, but I was already close, so why not?
The trip went perfectly. When we were pulling into Heidelberg Main Station I noticed on the screen on the train that there was a bus from Heidelberg to Speyer leaving really soon, so I rushed to catch it. I could still go to Speyer π.
What I didn't know was how long the bus trip would take. We went through heaps of little places, like Oftersheim, Hockenheim and Ketsch. It was sort of interesting (I saw a palace I'd like to visit), but it was l-o-n-g! It took more than 90 minutes π§.
Finally we arrived in Speyer (11:40 a.m.), right in front of the cathedral. Yay!!
After looking around the city and eating lunch I headed to the Speyer train station. The first train got me back to Mannheim without any problems. But when I looked for information about the platform for the train to Frankfurt, I learned it was cancelled π.
So I jumped on a train to Mainz - and we stopped at heaps of small towns, so it was another long, slow trip. At least this time I could use Wifi*. There was no connection at all on the way to Speyer.
Thankfully the next train left Mainz and then arrived in Frankfurt on time.
Looking back, the day was basically OK and I'm glad I got to see Speyer. But it sure was a long day.
Have you used the 9β¬ tickets? Did your day run smoothly or were there problems? Have you ever had travel plans fall to pieces? If you share your story, I'll definitely sympathise with you.
May all your trains, trams and buses run on time,
Andrea
