Hello ,
A few years ago, I did a huge walk with a friend.
We used a long weekend in late spring to visit a national park. There were short walks we could have done, but we decided to do about 25 km in one day.
To get an early start, we stayed in the local town the night before. We were walking by about 8:30 a.m.
Off we went, up a hill through the trees. It was a beautiful clear day - perfect for a hike. Before long we reached the top of the hill and had a view over the sea and across to the mountain we were going to climb. The colours were fantastic.
Walking along the beach, we saw a sea lion (1). When it saw us, it lifted its head for a good look, then turned around and swam off.
We were soon starting up the mountain. It wasn't super high, but it was still hard work! Finally we made it to the top and stopped and ate lunch.
So far, so good. In our minds, the worst part (going uphill) was finished. We just had to go back down - the other side.
The path was so steep (2) that we had to move slowly. It took a (long!) while, but in the end, we finished that part and the path became flatter. Our legs were feeling tired but there were still two sections to go.
After a short rest and drink, we had another beach to walk along. It was now mid-afternoon. We took our shoes off and walked in the water, which felt so good!
At the other end of the beach, we put our shoes back on and started the last section. We were now less than 90 minutes from the car.
We were tired, hot and thirsty, but we had to keep going.
Finally, we reached the car.
We were very pleased with ourselves, doing the 25 km, including a mountain. But the next couple of days were horrible. My legs were so sore (3)!
I'm curious - have you ever set yourself a big challenge (4) like ours? I hope you were successful. How did you feel when you finished? Write me a message to share your experience.
Enjoy your week,
Andrea
(1) sea lion - animal with fur that swims in the sea and eats fish. Bigger than a seal.
(2) steep - with a large change (increase or decrease) in height over a short distance.
(3) sore - full of pain, painful
(4) challenge - something that needs a lot of mental of physical work to finish successfully
