Hey ,
We were on holiday — in an area that was warm and sunny every day. It was going to be great 😀.
I was with a friend. We worked at the same place and had travelled together a few times before.
Our hotel was lovely. We didn’t just have a room, we had a whole little ‘villa’ to ourselves. Downstairs was a kitchen, living and dining area. Upstairs were bedrooms and a bathroom. Outside, the garden was full of plants that were totally different to what we saw every day where we lived.
We were out for most of each day, seeing the sights (1) (and wildlife) of the area. Every evening we’d come back to the hotel, swim for a while, then relax in our villa.
One evening, I was sitting and watching TV. My friend was upstairs. I didn’t know what she was doing.
Suddenly, she started screaming.
What was happening?
I went up the stairs to see.
My friend was standing outside the bathroom. I asked what was wrong. She pointed (2) to the wall of the bathroom.
There was a gecko (3).
I love geckos — I think they’re super cute. The place I lived was too cold for them, so to me they became a sign of being in a tropical area. Some of the things I bought when on holiday had pictures of geckos on them. Personally, I didn’t mind seeing them in my room.
But my friend was terrified (4).
I stepped into the bathroom.
BANG! The door slammed (5) behind me. I was alone with the gecko.
What to do? There was no way I was going to kill it — it was far too cute! Gently I guided it to the open window and out it went. Because of my friend, I immediately shut the window.
She heard that from outside the bathroom and asked if I was OK. I told her I was and that the bathroom was gecko-free. She carefully opened the bathroom door and looked around.
With the ‘danger’ gone she relaxed.
So, , have you every been really, really scared of something? So scared that you start screaming? Or are you the person who has to 'save' your friend or child or partner when there is 'danger'? I love hearing your stories.
I hope your week is free from scary animals!
'Bye,
Andrea
(1) sights - interesting places, especially for visitors
(2) pointed - used your fingers to show someone where to look
(3) gecko - small (cute!) lizard ('snake' with legs) found in warm areas
(4) terrified - really, really scared
(5) slammed - she closed the door, but with lots of power (so there was a loud noise)
