When helping almost caused a problem

Hey ,

It was almost time for me to finish work. The colleague (1) who was on night shift had arrived, and I told him all the important things he needed to know.

I completed (2) the last things I needed to do, put on my jacket and walked out the door.

The bus was still a few minutes away, so I didn't rush - I had plenty of time to get to the bus stop.

As I left my workplace, I saw a parked car with its lights on. A couple of thoughts hit me at the same time. Firstly, my colleague had parked somewhere different tonight, not in the underground carpark like usual. Plus, I thought he drove a little car like the one I was looking at. Finally, I needed to at least ask him if this was his car.

It's true, I could have phoned, but I had time to go back inside. So I did. It only took a few seconds and I was on my way again.

I reached the street where the bus stop was. No one was there waiting. I looked down the street and the next vehicle coming my way was a car. That was good! Then I looked further (3) down the street, and there was the bus!

It was tricky (4). I had to cross the street to catch the bus, and I had to wait for cars coming the other way before I could do that. Thankfully, those cars went passed quickly. I moved onto the crossing and the bus stopped to let me walk across.

I thought the driver was going to keep driving, as I wasn't at the bus stop. But he opened the door and let me on, which I was relieved about, but also a little surprised. (I think he recognised me.)

Not that it's important. I did the right thing and told my colleague about his car lights (yes, it was his car). But I think next time I'll phone instead of going back inside.

Have you ever missed a bus, ? Was it because you didn't give yourself enough time to get to the bus stop, or was it because something unexpected happened?

Have a great week!

Andrea
